Director of Music

A New Musical Team


We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new musical team. 


Robin Stubbs, our new Musical Director with Simon Dunbavand, organist and pianist.


Robin Stubbs


Robin began his career as an organ scholar at Chester Cathedral and later studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Whilst in Manchester Robin was a staff member at the Cathedral and organist to the Huddersfield Choral Society.


After graduating, Robin moved to South Wales to become Assistant Organist at St Woolos Cathedral and to continue his studies in London working with professional choirs and making several recordings and broadcasts. Robin began school teaching in 1990 and soon became a Prep School Director of Music.


In 2001 Robin moved to Jersey to take up the post of Director of Music at the Pro Cathedral and Director of vocal music at Victoria College. In 2008 he moved back to the mainland to take up his current post as Director of Music at Plymouth College Prep School. For 12 years he directed one of the most formidable church choirs in Cornwall - St Mary’s Launceston.


He has recently taken up the post as Director of Music at St Andrew’s Church in Ashburton and continues as Musical Director of Britannia Choral Society in Dartmouth. 


Simon Dunbavand


Simon will be familiar to many in the South West both for his conducting and for his virtuoso organ performances.


Simon graduated from Cambridge University, where he was Organ Scholar of Peterhouse. He studied piano with Martin Roscoe and organ with Roger Fisher, and has given recitals and played for services in numerous cathedrals.


Simon is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists and an Associate of the Royal College of Music. He is currently also the Musical Director of South Devon Choir and of East Cornwall Bach Choir.
