Elgar arr. Downing: I sing the birth

Vaughan Williams: A Fantasia on Christmas Carols.

The music for this concert had an Edwardian theme with choral music by Vaughan Williams and Elgar. The carols had also been selected from those dating from the first decades of the twentieth century including Angels from the Realms of Glory. O Magnum Mysterium, composed in the style of the period was especially commissioned from Jaemus Downing.

Excerpts from Handel's Messiah were also performed in recognition of the Ebenezer Prout edition of 1902 and the audience joined the choir in singing five carols.
